TCS Artist Feature - Meet Nick & Sam Squailia from Rustic Craft

Come on everybody....say hello to Nick and Sam Squailia.  They are today's featured artists from
The CraftStar.  Let's learn a little bit more about them.

Hanging Wine Rack

What is the story behind your shop name?
"RusticCraft --- The name took a few weeks to really nail down.... we wanted a name that wasn't our own last name...and we wanted a name that was versatile yet still would reflect what we DO... so what we do is generally things that are rustic.... and Craft is taken from "Craftsmen". I originally played around with the word "modern" in there....but RusticCraft was deemed the name winner =) In hindsight... the majority of people misspell our name by spacing out the words "Rustic Craft" or by calling us "Rustic Crafts" --- which really is not the intention of the name.... so in hindsight... I might have spelled it with one one C =) like "Rusticraft"...maybe. =)"
Personalized Family Sign

Where, when, how did you learn your craft?
"Nick and I (Sam) run RusticCraft together--- Nick does all the woodworking and I do all the engraving/internet/photography/customer service work. Nick has been doing Carpentry work since high school and my background is in Architecture & Engineering--- so we work well together....designing and building. =)
All the other accessory work to running the business has mostly been learned along the way."

Tell us a little about your family life.
"Nick & I have a super cute daughter named niki, she's 4 going on 17.....2 dogs and a cat =)
We live in the city of Fitchburg, Massachusetts...2nd hilliest city in the US with a fantastic Art Museum and arts community."
Ring Box Rustic Wood

Pick a favorite item from your shop, and why is it your favorite.
"The mini ring box is probably my favorite item.
They are so cute....and usually a breeze to engrave...especially the Maple and Black Cherry---the Black walnut is a tad harder but still....so nice to engrave! The American chestnut is the toughtest to get the engravings "perfect" as the grains are so thick and with the reclaimed wood sometimes there are little imperfections to work around.....but even that is so nice. Plus I wrap them up in burlap and a raffia ribbon and they are really just so adorable. =)"

Pink and Lavender Kanzasi Tiara Headband

Pick a favorite item from another shop, and why is it your favorite.
"My favorite buys from TheCraftstar have probably been the headbands from AngelPetals... I buy them for my daughter niki and she just loves them.
I got her a couple for Christmas this year including this one...and just as I predicted she just LOVES it...wears it everyday....and can get away with wearing it to school because technically it's still a headband. ha. OHHH she's too funny. =)"
