Introducing The CraftStar Shops - Plastiquarium
100% Recycled Display & Wearable Art
Plastiquarium® founder David Edgar lives in Tryon, North Carolina where he is a full time artist working in post-consumer recyclable plastics. A third generation Floridian, David worked on the EPCOT Center and Tokyo Disneyland projects as a Disney Imagineer. He also directed The Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach for 12 years. While earning his MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, Edgar worked in the conservation department of the Henry Ford Museum. He also holds a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. For over 30 years David’s artwork focused on sculpture in fabricated steel. Early in 2004 a strange thing happened, and David started cutting up and making artwork out of empty plastic detergent bottles. One thing led to another and now his work in recyclable plastics has been shown in over 50 gallery and museum exhibitions nationally and abroad. After founding the Plastiquarium® and wanting to promote the exciting creative potential of working with post-consumer recyclable plastics, David decided to share the joy. Now he teaches workshops in this contemporary craft media around the US and together with his wife Robin Edgar has developed a book, Fantastic Recycled Plastic (Lark Books 2009).
